A promising entry into Mont Kiara, serving an array of German, French & Italian bread.
We have trouble pronouncing Cafe Berlin's offerings (vollkornbrot? schwartzbrot?), but even if words won't roll off our tongues, flavors can be relished by our taste buds.
Cafe Berlin supplies everything from simple Vesper mixed wheat bread ...
... to loaves loaded with grainy goodness, great enough to eat on their own.
Dense & heavy with seeds & nuts, making a RM20 ten-slice loaf worth the premium.
Also available: wheat-rye kruestchen & stollen fruitcake (even if it's not Christmas).
Bonus stop: A short drive from Mont Kiara Mall, Swich has opened its dine-in outlet at Publika.
Entries on Swich Cafe at HP Towers: July 20, 2012 & Jan. 6, 2013.
It's a treasure trove of Swich's greatest hits, finally available seven days a week, from irresistible guilty pleasures like butter soft-shell-crab pasta with salted egg yolk ...
... to conscience-appeasing creations like a walnut, fig & pear salad that's vivid with flavors.
The menu at Publika's Swich is only slightly less extensive than the HP Towers outlet's; the cornucopia of comfort food spans pizzas sold by the slice to chunky chicken rendang burgers creamily coated in peanut sauce.
And of course, Swich's now-famed cakes are available too (from time to time, fortunate customers might find Swich founder Cheng Cheng's masterful mangosteen cake up for grabs). The cafe is located on G3, the level above MPH.

I m waiting for Swich to offer a ayam percik burger...preferably with a juicy grilled chicken thigh! =)
ReplyDeleteUlric: ooh, you can suggest that to cheng cheng of swich. she's happy to try to please customers if they have interesting new ideas :D
DeleteWow!!! I'd be spoilt for choice. I'd wish they wouldn't have fusion stuff like chicken rendang though - stay authentic & original...and hey! I love those old-school chairs - except that they're painted white. Old school people like me like such things... Hehehehehe!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSuituapui: heheh, old-school is good. classic! :D
Deletethose bread are really nice and fresh..
ReplyDeleteyummy.. I am a bread person..
Simple Person: yeah, i like bread that's satisfyingly grainy. it's filling and fulfilling! :D
DeleteWow, the dense wheat bread really caught my attention.. I which to sink my teeth onto it right now!!!!!!!!!! Ugh, imagine that with a cuppa hot coffee~ lovely.
ReplyDeleteEunice: yeah, i think that bread could go nicely on its own or with some great butter, heheh :D

ReplyDeleteYouHadYourLunch: yeah, damn the carbs, but good bread is so irresistible :D and ya, a lot of folks haven't managed to visit swich at hp towers since it only opens office hours there, but now everyone can head to publika for their swich fix! :D
DeleteI need to go try the soft shell crab pasta soon... btw I also have trouble pronouncing most German words. They often sound different than they are spelt... luckily I have my brother to teach me. :P
ReplyDeleteBaby Sumo: yeah, the combo of soft-shell crab with salted egg yolk is pretty sinful but pretty memorable! :D heh, oh ya, the unc can help us with trying to purchase the bread at cafe berlin! i basically just pointed without pronouncing =)
DeleteLooks like I get to enjoy Swich on weekends now:D Gonna check them out this lobe weekend when my runs end in Solaris:D
ReplyDeleteMissyblurkit: ooh, that sounds convenient! ya, swich at publika is still fairly quiet on weekends, maybe cos it's not near most of the other restaurants here. you'll be able to re-energize on great pastas, burgers and cakes after your run! :D
Deletesuperb and thanks for the tips! was just thinking on where to get my hubby´s staple food when I am back in Msia in a weeks time!
ReplyDeleteFrau: no worries, hope this satisfies your hubby's cravings! :D
DeleteSuch specilaty bread shop perhaps can only be found where there are expats and not our local neighbourhoods, pity and a little sad ! True also nearby Solaris are a rich neighbourhood !
ReplyDeleteWong: heh, it's wise of them to set up shop in this location, since they have to make sure there's sufficient demand here for their bread :D
DeleteAbsolutely fabulous looking bread! I would go for that! :D
ReplyDeleteHuai Bin: yeah, i ended up gobbling half a loaf in the afternoon ... and in the evening, i could barely eat dinner, heh! :D
DeleteYay, next time can visit Swich on the weekend!
ReplyDeleteCK: ya, this swich outlet is open everyday, including for dinner! very convenient :D
Deletelooks so delicate and beautiful.
